NUDE FOOD PORN - SHOCK HORROR @ CRUISE BAR RE-LAUNCH..

Well I am not sure it was really that shocking or scandalous but if the idea was to get some extra media coverage it certainly sort-of did the job. What I found most interesting about said 'nude platter scandal' was not just that the models weren't nude.. doing my research for this blog post I was very surprised to discover that the so-called 'famous' 'Sex and the City' 'Sushi Samantha' scene (below) was an idea lifted from one of the greatest Surrealists of all time Méret Oppenheim who "in 1959 she created the controversial object, Cannibal Feast, for the opening of the last International Surrealist Exhibition in Paris. The sculpture included a live nude model laid out on a table and covered with food" hows that!

Storm in Le Déjeuner en fourrure aside, the Re-launch party for Cruise Bar which also incorporates Terrace Bar and Junk Lounge (no it's not an opium den but that is where the decadence happened) all with views of the Sydney Opera House, and in my books and keeping with an art theme, the best view is toward the CBD, layering Circular Quay Station and the Cahill Expressway with boats and trains and above, the cars whizzing by, then steel and glass skyscrapers and an occasional plane, it's the ultimate Futurist city view. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Circular Quay Station along with the Harbour Bridge are both Art Deco structures; perfect!

So I attended with Vivienne from vivalaViv, met up with stylist Mr Christopher Haggerty, Gordon Charles and Sandy from Platform Models, Kate Peck, Yianni(s City life) Zinonos, lots of beautiful people and many of the usual suspects. The food was great and just kept coming, the speeches were well timed, and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. I do recommend you check out Cruise Bar for yourself. Scandalous pictures Below!!!

Trash-Bag Tribalism "Artificial: From Raw to Recycled" by Dehautt.

Friday night found me at a highly experimental fashion design show that explored re-use, alternative-use and I should also imagine, the idea of upcycling; perhaps best explored conceptually in the Paco Rabanne(ish) bread-bag-clip dress, the dolls heads halter neck top (F-U Barbie), and the coffee sack skirt and coat. I was once accused of wearing a 'burlap sack' while sporting a raw linen shirt (by an American in St Petersburg Russia of all places - the shirt was from Helsinki..), these models really are wearing one! If this show is about making us think about how we use what is around us everywhere, everyday, with an emphasis on the ubiquitous plastic bag; then this project is a huge success. Enjoy the show, I certainly did.
"Created by Sydney brand Dehautt by Sara Nicolette, this collection enables us to reflect on the nature of our consumerist society by using often-overlooked raw materials, and allows us gain some insight into the importance of recycling and working towards preserving for the future."

About Art Last Night - Keith Haring @ NAS

I bet that got your attention, Keith Haring at the National Art School. Well sort of, I mean look at this great Keith Haring print dress, or skirt and top, plimsolls, and not sure if you can make it out at this size, I mean I only saw it when I was editing the shot, a yin/yang necklace; spotted and photographed at the launch of 'Greyscale' in the new and very lovely Rayner Hoff Studio.

There was also the Honours Painting 2015 LSG show on in the stairwell gallery also at NAS, certainly one of the more enjoyable shows that I have seen in that space, well worth a look in.

I don't think any joke is intended with this  site specific work but how many times do we look at something and think, "well that's a ready-made work of art right there.." brilliant! Must say I have admired these niches before, this one upstairs and the 'trap' pictured below was in the corresponding niche downstairs.

I think this art piece by Matt Peet must be one of the funniest and clever art works I have seen in a long time, don't take the money its a trap, the highway to art hell? For me I immediatly thought of Meret Oppenheim's teacup which was a whole career in one artwork!

The Red Penguin - Formal Attire.

When I saw this outfit I just knew I wanted to get a shot of it and thankfully Anna May was happy to oblige. Vintage outfit purchased in Japan.. love the play on men's formal attire, or is it a more ecumenical type of an idea? Spotted last night at the John Fries Award at -NotCOFA-Anymore.
